iProduct Craze

I had Girls' Night Out last night with a good friend I've made here in Munich.  Our older kids are in school together and have become very close.  She was telling me that her six year old has been requesting an iPod, which made me wonder if little Seany and Grace have been conspiring, because I keep getting requests for an iPad.  Why in the world, I wonder, would a six year old need such technology?  I'm not sure Hannah Montana or Angry Birds really warrant such expense or extravagance.

At any rate, while checking Facebook, a seminary acquaintance of mine posted this:

It's an iPad lecturn that's new on the market.  Her comment was something along the lines of how wonderful it would be for the readers to be sure to get the right reading each week.  Of course it's more convenient for the clergy readers to not have to actually open a Bible (horrors!) and find the correct passages, but if we take the Bible away from the lecturn, where else in a typical Episcopal church is one to find such a book?  And since we Episcopalians are so fond of the theology behind the likes of symbolism (the Bible in a prominent place of honor), tradition (harking back to the unrolling of the scrolls in the temple), and reading the texts in context (as a lot, we have a strong distaste for proof-texting), what theology are we now to adopt? My thinking is that if we can't freely articulate God's blessing on all people and their relationships, I'm no so sure we can rightly sanction iScripture. Besides, if we went to some automated Scripture index, the Episcopal Church would be responsible for the loss of many jobs at the Post-It Note factory.  It seems to me that there needs to be a special task force formed at General Convention to research this issue and draft a recommendation.  Or a covenant.  Or something, like maybe an iLiturgy.  It's only proper.
